on saturday, i drove 8 hrs for roadtrip. it involved going on the needles hwy, a hwy made in 1919, which was meant to be impossible, engineeringly-wise. but the engineer said, "give me enough dynamite, and i will make it!" and he did. then we went on the wildlife loop in custer state park and then the iron mt. road, which was made in the 30s, also with dynamite. most of these pics are taken by ashley because i was driving. though some are my pics. my fave part was iron mt road and the wild burros, which i guess were used "years ago" (not very technically accurate on the brochure's part) to go up a mountain, then released. now they're just wild. the end part of iron mt road was very scenic. but i guess ashley didn't get a chance to take any pictures of that part when we drove. it was really nice when the 2 lanes diverged into separate areas and it was just a really lush, green area, and the one lane snaked its way super windy through the forest. i guess pics wouldn't really have captured that anyway.
some misadventures: when i stopped in the middle of the road (not suddenly) when a wasp flew in my face, literally.
when i stopped in the middle of the road and put on our hazard lights because our headlight literally flew off and into the fields. ashley had to go and get it. it had been falling off repeatedly, but this time it just snapped off its wire and flew off our car.
the first dynamite blasted tunnel through needles hwy.

i liked this one a lot. enough to make it public, even. somehow it spoke uncannily to the mood recently. and maybe uncannily to the mood for all 6 years of my journal's existence.

i've been up since 9 am without stopping. so i'll write about today tomorrow. but in the meantime, allow me to show you some pictures i took today because it snowed here. quite a bit. 4 inches. supposedly the most it has gotten in 15 years or so. said some pub goers. many beyond the lj cut tag. be wary.
